There is something so magical about having expanses of fabric flowing around you. The feeling of all that material is a luxury in itself, and a long skirt is undeniably romantic. So when super long maxi dresses started showing up on runways and in magazine in the last year, we immediately added them to our thrifting checklists.
This red dress is so bohemian I actually almost didn’t buy it. There’s no waistband so it’s essentially a glorified mumu, but I couldn’t get over how it felt to be in it. Any room I entered I would sweep into dramatically, even if it wasn’t trying to. Everything I said would have a new weight of elegance and prophecy. Also, I knew it would look great cinched by my brown leather Ralph Lauren belt.
And yes, the sky was actually that terrible shade of brown in these photos. California was in the midst of an epic wildfire season paired with a ridiculous heat wave, so all the smoke from the mountains was being sucked out to sea right over our oceanside retreat.
