Temperatures warming up, the sun is starting to peek out of the clouds, and they just announced the Outside Lands lineup. That means festival season is almost upon us! What could be a better way to find a unique and expressive outfit than picking through the closets of thousands of generous strangers, or, in other words, heading to Goodwill? That’s how we think of thrifting sometimes: unlimited access to unique pieces from other people’s closets. With so much variety, finding the perfect look is inevitable, but it helps to have a little inspiration. So here’s our 2018 festival style forecast, in partnership with Goodwill Industries of San Francisco, San Mateo and Marin.
Bohemian and hippie-inspired looks are always appropriate at any music festival, and the warm and dry weather in the Coachella Valley leaves your options pretty wide open. A lightweight maxi dress is a great way to beat the heat. Start with a dress that has some handcrafted details, whether that means fringe and beading, or in the case of Britt’s look, some embroidery. Keeping with the crafty theme, don’t shy away from color. Layer on beaded necklaces that play with the hues in the rest of your outfit. In this look, the blues in the accessories match the blue of the embroidery. Keeping a common color theme in all you accessories will keep them looking intentional.

White Embroidered Maxi Dress – $8.99
While boho looks are a perennial standby, this year’s festival looks are going to have a big dose of glam mixed with the generally laid back style. Despite all the fantastic music, the reality is that music festivals are often crowded and hot, so no matter what you’ll want to be comfortable. Opt for flowing fabrics that breath and avoid long sleeves, so you have the option to layer for warmth (in case @karlthefog rolls in at Outside Lands). To keep things glam, use a solid color as your base and accessorize with a single tone. In this case, Devon chose a solid black jumpsuit, black sandals, and all the accessories are gold metal.
